BODY BOARDING - THE WORLD'S FASTEST GROWING WATERSPORT
Bodyboarding
Bodyboarding is a form of surfing, this time with stiff, high density foam boards about a metre in length. Bodyboards are used by all ages to ride any size of wave. The attractions of bodyboarding are the small amount of equipment required (which means no problem with transport) and because you lie on the board you learn very quickly to paddle out through the surf, turn around and catch your first wave. Best of all you can even do it on the small summer waves that come up with a sea breeze.
The gear for Bodyboarding
Bodyboard - Choose a smaller board for light to medium weight riders and a larger stiffer board for heavier riders
Leash - For safety this keeps the rider with the board when in the surf, it is attached by velcro to the wrist
Bodyboard Bag - Used to carry the board and wetsuit to the beach, the heavy duty backpack type can be used on a bike
Surf Wax - This is rubbed on the top of the board so that you can grip it when wet
Crazywater Bodyboard Package - Buy this cool package and you are ready to hit the surf!!
Fins for paddling power
For “Big Wave” action you need Fins for paddling power - When you want to start riding bigger waves you will need a pair of bodyboarding flippers, known as “Fins”. These have much shorter blades than a diver would use. The fins will give you “burst speed” just when you need it when paddling out or catching a wave
Wetsuits for warmth
On a warm summers day you can stay in the water for an hour or more just wearing a pair of shorts or a swimming costume. But if the surfs up you will want to stay in longer, this is when its time to think about wetsuits. The big names in wetsuits are Gul and Alder from the UK, Rip Curl from Australia and O’Neill from America.
Wherever there is a wave you will find surfers and bodyboarders. The beaches at Southbourne, Boscombe, Bournemouth and Highcliffe offer ideal conditions.
