We have been using our own Ocean Kayaks since the 1990s and the Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro has always been our favourite open sea kayak. The Prowler 13 has some great angling features but the Scupper Pro is rapidly become the kayak of choice for a large number of kayak anglers who want a fast and simple boat.
The Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro has a great price advantage and is a serious rival to any fishing sit on top kayaks worldwide. The Scupper Pro is now been seen as a match for any type of sit on top kayaks, including some at 3 times the price. The rear tank well works really well for fishing and the front hatch gives generous under deck storage.
The seating position is very low, which keeps your centre of gravity very low. The first impression is a fast ride and you soon realise that the feel is more like a conventional sit in touring kayak. Although the cockpit has less space than a wider kayak everything is within easy reach. The Scupper Pro is very stable and is a superb sea going kayak.
Besides open sea fishing the Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro is the ideal fishing platform for accessing the shallow areas of low tide Christchurch Harbour, Mudeford, Highcliffe, Barton, Milford On Sea, Christchurch Bay, Hurst Castle, Keyhaven, Lymington, Beaulieu River, Bucklers Hard, Lepe, Calshot, Southampton Water or the many mud flats in the Solent and Isle of Wight.
Launching your sit on top kayak in Bournemouth Bay you can paddle from the beach at Southbourne, Branksome, Durley or Sandbanks. You can paddle round Boscombe pier, the new Boscombe Reef or Bournemouth pier and know that your Ocean Kayak will beat most Bournemouth canoes to the best fishing and angling locations.
Ocean kayaks are perfect for padling the River Stour or lower reaches of the River Avon, Test, Itchen or Hamble for fresh water angling. In Poole Harbour you can paddle past Poole Quay, round Brownsea Island, Furzey Island, Green Island, Long Island, Round Island or up the Wareham Channel to Wareham.
If you want to fish off the Purbecks you will find that Studland, Old Harry, Swanage, Kimmeridge, Lulworth, Durdle Door, Ringstead and Weymouth are easy to reach in an Ocean Kayak. See you on the water!
